"The Little Nyonya: The Final Chapter" to air on Channel 8 this Sunday

SINGAPORE: Fans of "The Little Nyonya" are in for a treat. MediaCorp will air a special three—minute segment closing the final chapter of the story.

The capsule will be shown at 9.55 pm on Channel 8 on January 11.

Star—crossed lovers Yue Niang and Chen Xi will meet again after their separation at the railway track.

Producers of the popular Chinese drama worked on the story just days after the finale of the series on January 5.

The script for the capsule was finalised on January 8 and filming was completed the following day.

The production of such a capsule is a first for Channel 8 and producers said it was due to overwhelming viewer response.

Hopeful About The Future
01.05.09 (11:45 pm)   [edit]

It was the finale for the TV drama "Little Nyonya" tonight. No one will pursue me to reveal the story development for the later episodes anymore. It was hard to stay mum for so long for the fear that too much will be revealed & spoilt the series & one’s enjoyment. Even the fruits stall auntie at the company canteen was asking my colleague about it. The most asked questions were,“Who is Yue Niang’s husband?” “Who will Chen-Xi married with?”,“What happened to Yu Zhu later? Despite some flaws, I think "Little Nyonya" fared very well & it was certainly a very well attempted piece to be remembered. It certainly held the weight as the drama specially produced to celebrate the TV Station Anniversary.

OuXuan starring as San Ben YueNiang here (Beautiful Smile here)

Bai Wei Xiu starring as Huang Yu Zhu (My Fav. Pict)

Pierre Png starring as the devoted Chen Sheng.

(My fav scene 3/8 where he met Junxiang (Yueniang's mother) by the well.  He was captivated by her.  He replied "I lost my way." when being asked why he was there by maid Ah Tao, but he said it like he was lost in her gaze instead.  This was the scene I heard myself saying, "I lost my way too..." Later I told my director about it, she asked me it's Pierre Png right? heheheh...Embarassed

A well-written script is hard to come by.  How many sleepless nights & brain cells must die before one can come up with one?  I was so hooked to the story when I first read the scripts.  I just couldn’t stop once I started.  The story was so exciting that I was even reading them during my lunch break like a great novel.  I had no clues where it would leads me to unlike there were episodic synopsis in the “I-Weekly” or “8 Days” magazines during its airing on TV.  Right then, I still had no idea who were playing the rest of the characters.  There were originally 30 episodes but ended up as 34 on TV due to the total amount of scenes edited.  And time must be made for emotional scenes.  I was so grateful we were able to air them all.  Every time I would stay a look out for its episodic trailers on TV, hoping nothing will be revealed too much & able to hook the audience to tune in the next day & the day after & after all the way.  Sometimes it was successful, at times I hope another scene could be used instead.  But it was a very top discussed drama series.  It was certainly my honor to be involved in the project.  During those days of editing, I was lost in this imaginary World in that dark little room with the rushes, and in those scenes where actors were no longer themselves but the characters.  It was a very ‘high’ experience, cos’ I love it so much.  I am sure after the airing of “Little Nyonya”, there would be a better understanding of the Peranakan Culture that had sat quietly in our country for so long.  We certainly need to produce more different type of story content.  I hope this is a good step forward in near future.  Let there be change, let there be breakthrough.  I am hopeful.

P.s.  “Perfect Cut 2” will be airing soon in March!!! I can’t wait to see it.  It’s a drama about Cosmetic Surgery that was being outsourced & produced outside. It’s also one that made me feel hopeful that we are capable of producing high quality drama in Singapore. I am seeing a different light at the end of the tunnel.
