SYD FIELD IN SINGAPORE   The Picturehouse Explores: Screenwriting workshop with Syd Field
Wednesday 4th March 2009
7.30pm

Finally saw how Syd Field looks like after hearing his name so much.  He is the most sought after screen writing instructor in the world.  I didn't know he was invited to Singapore & it was his first time here.  He was warm & inviting. This 1 hour session was a very general & brief introduction about screenwriting.  I think more illustration of examples & theories shall be given in his 2 days Masterclass going to be held this weekend Sat & Sun at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Raining Sadness
03.03.09 (12:48 am)   [edit]

Maybe it's because of the rain today, I actually feel like crying.  I feel vulnerable yet not weak.  Maybe it was the scenes I played in my head.  The sky started to drizzle gently as I walked down the road lined with greenery & big houses through the back gate after work.  It was a road I enjoyed walking on despite it was a longer route rather than leaving by the front gate that was a straight road to another bus stop.  I was given a quiet moment for ponder & thoughts.  At times, I spent it with imagination.

I sat at the bus stop, feeling the emotions in my heart as I ran through the scenes my friend had wrote. It was a true story about her mother who passed away suddenly one day without any signs and she and her father going through a period of grieving.  I do at times, found myself taking my mum for granted & I could imagine the story happening on me for real.  We were doing principle photography one afternoon & I felt a sting of sadness clinging on me when I was handed the real props of an old jotter book filled with neatly pasted recipes.  I asked my friend, whether her mum had cooked these dishes for her.  She replied, "I think she tried."

I could sense the intensity of the emotion breakdown in the story, when the character tried to find the symptoms of stroke on the Internet.  It was a story that captured my heart, because it was so simple yet so real.  I put myself in scenes after scenes, I found it hard not to cry.  Oh rain, I felt the sadness in the air well hidden from the sight.  You are quiet but I felt your tears.  I had my umbrella, but they fell from my eyes...
